Logline generator

How to use the logline generator

New to pitching a premise? Learn how to write a logline, with a formula and annotated examples.

  1. In All random, type or edit Genre, Tone, Theme, Protagonist and Setting. Use each Roll button when you want an ingredient from the story catalog; you can edit the result.
  2. Alternatively, choose This meets that, roll two source films and select which source supplies each ingredient. These choices inspire a new pitch rather than describe either film.
  3. Choose Generate 3 variations, then browse the results with Previous logline and Next logline.
  4. Keep a useful formulation in your own notes and revise it. Change ingredients when you want a different direction.

An original worked example

Try these ingredients: Thriller for Genre, tense but hopeful for Tone, responsibility for Theme, a cautious ferry captain for Protagonist, and an island facing a storm for Setting.

One possible formulation:

When a storm cuts off an island, a cautious ferry captain must cross a mined channel to evacuate its residents before the flood arrives, risking the crew who trusted her.

This is an authored teaching example, not a recorded generator response. It adds an obstacle and a deadline to make the rescue concrete. The residents’ lives are at stake; exposing the crew to danger makes the captain’s choice costly. Your generated variations may propose different situations.

Choose a promise you can develop

Look for a protagonist pursuing something specific under pressure. Ask what could be lost, what the pursuit costs and whether you want to write the choices it implies. A fluent sentence is a starting proposal, not proof of a coherent story.

Use the logline review checklist to compare the results. The built-in story walkthrough shows how an intention connects to dramatic evidence.

Access, limits and keeping your work

Can I try it without an account?

Yes. Guest access lets you try logline generation. Creating and editing your own MythOS documents requires an account.

How many times can I generate?

Guest and Free access currently allow two Generate requests per rolling 24 hours. A request asks for three variations; the allowance counts requests, not individual loglines. See current plans for other access.

Does a result automatically become a saved story?

No. Keep the text you want in your own notes. The standalone page does not create or update a MythOS document. Inside an editable document, the separate Contract generator has a Copy to Seed contract action.

What if generation fails?

Read the message and use the offered Retry control for a failed request. The tutorial and examples remain available while you decide what to try next.
